Hey everyone! Did you watch the IPL 2026 Auction today? If you missed it because you were at work or college, don't worry, because I've got you covered. The truth is that this auctions was absolute madness today in Abu Dhabi! We saw records being broken, unknown players becoming crorepatis overnight and the odd really shocking name going unsold.

It is almost time that we were watching finals in 2025 and the teams are already developing their squads for the next season in 2026. This was a "Mini Auction", which typically means teams are just filling gaps, but this spending was anything but "mini". It was KKR and CSK who especially went all out!

Let's break down exactly what happened today who went where and how much money was asplashed.

IPL 2026 Auction highlights showing Cameron Green sold to KKR and team owners bidding

The "Big Dhamaka" Buys: Very Expensive Players

The biggest news of the day would be definitely Cameron Green. We knew that he will to go for a high price but KKR (Kolkata Knight Riders) really broke the bank for him.

Cameron Green - 25.20 Crore (Sold to KKR)

This is huge! KKR had fought hard with Mumbai Indians and CSK to get the Aussie all rounder. He is the now the most expensive overseas player in this auction. Imagine how much pressure he is under to perform!

Matheesha Pathirana - 18 Crore (Sold to KKR).

KKR wasn't finished with just Green. They also bought "Baby Malinga", Matheesha Pathirana for a massive 18 Crore. Their bowling attack is looking scary good at this time.

The "Who Are They?" Shockers - 14.20 Crore Each!

This was the jaw dropping moment of the day. Chennai Super Kings (CSK) who are usually very calculated, splashed out [?]14.20 Crore each on two uncapped Indian youngsters:

  • Prashant Veer
  • Kartik Sharma

Most fans were Google-ing their names! CSK clearly sees something in them - could be the next big superstars?

Notable Sold Players: Who Went Where?

Apart from the record-breakers, a lot of fan favourites found new houses. Here is a quick look at some key players for this and their prices.

Player Name           Sold To Team                         Price

Cameron Green            Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR)            25.20 Cr

Matheesha Pathirana     Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR)            18.00 Cr

Prashant Veer               Chennai Super Kings (CSK)             14.20 Cr

Kartik Sharma              Chennai Super Kings (CSK)              14.20 Cr

Mustafizur Rahman       Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR)             9.20

Auqib Nabi                   Delhi Capitals (DC)                          8.40 Cr

Ravi Bishnoi                 Rajasthan Royals (RR)                     7.20 Cr

Venkatesh Iyer             Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB)  7.00 Cr

Mangesh Yadav            Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB)   5.20 Cr

David Miller                 Delhi Capitals (DC)                           2.00 Cr

Quinton de Kock          Mumbai Indians (MI)                        1.00 C

Steal of the Day: Delhi Capitals picked David Miller (Killer Miller!) for a meagre 2 Crore. That is a bargain for a match-winner like him. Also Mumbai Indians acquiring Quinton de Kock for 1 Crore was a shrewd, quiet move.

The Heartbreaks: Unsold Players List

Auctions are cruel. Sometimes, big names just aren't going to fit in the team combinations. Today, there were some very surprising names that went unsold. These guys may return as replacements in the future, but, for now, they were out.

Prithvi Shaw: Once the Next big Thing in Indian Cricket, sadly didn't find any buyers today.

Sarfaraz Khan: Despite scoring tons of runs in domestic cricket IPL teams actually didn't raise the paddle for him.

Daryl Mitchell: The Kiwi all-rounder got no sales, which was a bit of a surprise given his utility.

Josh Inglis: The Aussie keeper-batter didn't find a team as well.

It's hard luck but that's how it works in the IPL auctions!

Team-by-Team Quick Review

Here is a basic breakdown of how your favorite teams fared today:

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR)

They were the kings of the auction floor! They had the largest purse (money bag) and they used it. Buying Cameron Green and Pathirana indicates that they are looking to dominate with pace and power. Their squad appears very dangerous.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK)

Typical CSK behaviour - doing unexpected things! They had spent more than [?]28 Crores to buy two unknown players (Prashant Veer & Kartik Sharma). MS Dhoni and the management must have scouted them very well. They also purchased Aman Khan at cheaply.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB)

Whereas RCB fans, you got Venkatesh Iyer! He brings good balance of all-around players. They also picked up Mangesh Yadav for [?]5.2Cr. It looks as if they were trying to fix their middle order up as well as bowling depth.

Mumbai Indians (MI)

MI was very quiet. They didn't have any money to spend that much. They bought Quinton de Kock ([?]1 Cr) and some of the younger talents such as Danish Malewar. They are relying upon their retained core to get the job done.

Delhi Capitals (DC)

DC played it smart. Getting David Miller for [?]2 Cr is a lottery win. They also spent big on Auqib Nabi ([?]8.4 Cr) showing they are willing to trust young bowling talent.

Final Thoughts:

What to Expect From IPL 2026?

The teams are set, the money is spent and now the excitement is building up. IPL 2026 is going to be interesting because there are teams like KKR which are super strong on paper and CSK which is betting on "mystery" youth players.

This auction proved one thing, that Talent is everything. Whether you are a big australian star or a small boy from the domestic cricket then if you have the skill then the teams will pay crores for you.

What do you think?

  • Did your favorite team do a good job of making buys?
